An old floodplain is an area that has been subject to flooding for a long period of time, resulting in the deposition of rich, fertile soil. These floodplains are often characterized by mature vegetation and well-established ecosystems. In contrast, a recent floodplain is an area that has been recently inundated by floodwaters, often resulting in erosion and disruption of the existing landscape. These areas may have less developed vegetation and ecosystems, and may require time to recover from the impact of the flood. **

The floodplain of the Yellow River is formed through a combination of factors. The river carries large amounts of sediment and silt downstream, which are deposited along its banks during periods of flooding. Over time, these deposits build up and create a flat, fertile floodplain. Additionally, the river's meandering course and occasional changes in its path also contribute to the formation of the floodplain as it shifts and deposits sediment in different areas. **

A polder is a low-lying tract of land that has been reclaimed from a body of water, typically through the use of dikes and drainage canals. Polders are commonly found in the Netherlands, where they are used for agriculture and residential purposes. On the other hand, a floodplain is a flat or gently sloping area of land adjacent to a river, stream, or other water body that is prone to flooding. Floodplains are important for absorbing excess water during periods of high flow and are often used for agriculture or as natural habitats for wildlife. **

Ash trees typically prefer well-drained soils and are not well-suited to the constantly saturated conditions found in floodplain forests. The excess water in floodplain forests can lead to root rot and other issues that are detrimental to ash trees. Additionally, the competition for resources such as sunlight, nutrients, and water from other species that are better adapted to floodplain conditions may also hinder the growth of ash trees in this environment. **
